Hver pakki af lausavasa samanstendur af ullarefni með áprentuðu musntri, léreftsfóðri, þunnu bómullarfóðri, baki úr grófu bómullarefni, ullarbryddingu, útsaumsbandi og nál. Annað sem þarf eru góð skæri og tvinni.
Leggið léreftið við bakhlið ullarefnisins og þræðið saman með tvinna í björtum lit. Þræðið meðfram útlínum vasans og meðfram útlínum munstursins.
Each kit contains two printed wool fabrics, calico backing fabric, cotton lining for the front piece, thick cotton fabric for the back, wool binding for the edges, wool embroidery thread and a needle. Other notions that are not included but needed are a good pair of scissors and sewing thread in a bright colour.
Instructions: place the calico on the back of the printed wool fabric and stitch together using a brightly coloured sewing thread. Stitch along the edge of the pattern as well around the edge of the pocket.
Vasinn er saumaður með mismunandi útsaumssporum. Á vasa ÞJMS 349 sem varðveittur er á Þjóðminjasafninu er notaður blómstursaumur, leggsaumur, fræhnútar og skattering. Því smærri sem sporin eru, því fínlegra verður munstrið og auðveldara verður að fylgja útlínum af nákvæmni.
Munstrið er prentað með olíulit sem hverfur ekki úr efninu. Best er að reyna að hylja allar doppur með útsaum.
The pocket is embroidered using a wide variety of stitches. It is better to sew small stitches, as the embroidery will be finer and the pattern more defined. The pattern itself is printed with oil colour which is permanent, so it is best to cover all pattern dots with embroidery.
Samsetning / assembly
1) Þræðið þunna fóðrið við framhlið vasans á röngunni, gætið að því að þræða innan útlínanna.
Tack the thin cotton lining to the back of the pocket front, make sure to stay within the dotted outlines of the pocket.

With a pair of scissors, cut along the dotted slit line of the pocket. With a thread in the same colour as the wool cloth, whipstitch the edges to prevent fraying. Be careful not to pull the fabric together.
3) Klaufin er brydduð fyrst. Leggið bryddinguna á réttuna, hafið ávallt augun á brún klaufarinnar. Saumið bryddinguna á með nokkuð þéttum aftursting. Athugið að það getur reynst vandasamt að sauma niður bryddinguna í kverkinni. Reynið að brjóta vasann saman á þann máta að hægt sé að sauma bryddinguna áfram flata við. Þegar búið er að sauma bryddinguna við á hún að standa upprétt í kverkinni.
Start by binding the slit. Place the binding on the right side of the wool fabric and keep your eyes on the edge of the slit at all times. Stitch the binding with a small backstitch. Note that it can be tricky to stitch the binding at the bottom of the slit. Try to fold the pocket in such a way that you may continue to stitch in a straight line. Once you‘ve stitch the binding, it should stand upright in the bottom on the slit.
4) Leggið bryddinguna niður með á röngunni.
Finish by slip stitching the binding on the wrong side.
5) Gott er að festa bryddinguna með því að vefja þræðinum utan um hana rétt fyrir neðan efri brún vasans
It‘s good to secure the binding at the top of the slit by wrapping the thread it around the binding.
6) Takið fram bakið á vasanum. Leggið framhlið vasans við bakið og klippið eftir vasanum, þó ekki raufina. Leggið litla leyniblómið á bakhliðina og saumið við með fínlegum sporum.
Take the thick cotton back and place the pocket on top. Carefully cut along the outline of the pocket, foregoing the slit. Take the hidden flower, position on the thick cotton back so that it can just be seen through the slit and stitch onto the cotton back.
7) Þræðið saman framhlið og bakhlið, varpið yfir brúnir allan hringinn.
Tack together the front and back of the pocket and whip stitch the edges.
8) Bryddið hliðar vasans og leggið niður með að aftan. Ekki þarf að ganga frá bryddingunni, klippið aðeins umfram bryddingu við brún vasans og vefjið þráðinn þétt um bryddinguna til að varna því að hún rakni upp.
Bind the pocket, starting with the sides. Cut the binding at the top edge and secure the binding by wrapping the thread tightly around it.
9) Bryddið efri hlið vasans og gangið snyrtilega frá enda bryddingarinnar með því að brjóta hana innundir og sauma fast.
Bind the top edge of the pocket and secure the ends by folding them in under the binding.
10) Að lokum skal sauma bendlaböndin við endana á vasanum. Klippið í tvennt, saumið við og þegar vasinn er bundinn við mittið í fyrsta sinn má stytta böndin í hæfilega lengd.
Finally, sew on the cotton tape. Cut in half, sew onto the corners of the pocket and when the pocket is worn for the first time, tie at the waist and trim excess tape.
